Introductory Blog
Firstly, let me extend to you a warm welcome. At the request of clients, friends and family I am starting to write a blog with the intention, of offering hope, inspiration and maybe a laugh or two to whoever reads it.
So here goes! I guess the first thing I should tell you is a little about myself. I live in Victoria, Australia. I am a woman (yeah I thought that was obvious too, but in this day and age I felt it was best to be up front about such things) I grew up an only child, and both my parents have now passed away. I’m married and a mother to two adult boys (now men, I still can’t believe that my babies are all grown up – those 20 years sure did fly by).
Career wise, I have worked in retail, been a receptionist, worked in funeral service, and in a Bereavement Resource Centre. I’ve been a stay at home mum, cleaned houses for a living and been an Avon representative. After raising our children, I attended University for the first time as a mature age student, to obtain my Bachelor of Counselling degree. So if, after reading this blog, you only take away one thing let it be that it is never too late to start studying.
I did my placement for my degree with the wonderful people of Griefline, and I can tell you that they are a fantastic organisation, well worth supporting for the amazing work they do on a shoestring budget.
Since graduating I have been doing some exciting work with Greengate Consultants (Counsellors) and its founder Lynne Collis. Together, we have been able to provide some valuable counselling to clients in need, and have been delighted to see clients obtain really pleasing results. It is a privilege to be invited into a client’s life to share their struggle, bear witness to their pain and their growth, and to celebrate their successes.
Now having my own counselling practice, I cannot begin to tell you how much I love my work. I feel inspired by the clients I work with, and what a joy it is to see a person work through the issues they have brought to our sessions and embark on living the life they have always wanted, with the strategies in place to support them as they move forward.
So there you have a little bit of information about me, and the work I am doing. Just one more thing, as you’ve probably noticed, I am not a professional writer, I don’t pretend to be. I am a Counsellor, and I want my blog to be authentically me, so I am not going to have the living daylights edited out of it, so it no longer reflects me, my thoughts or opinions. I may make the odd grammatical error or mess up my punctuation; however I don’t happen to think that is the end of the world. I am only human, we all make mistakes and I am no exception. So I hope you will look past my occasional stuff up, and simply enjoy this blog.
